Senior Correspondent : On Monday, February 16, 2026, the National Citizen Party (NCP) officially signed the July National Charter at the State Guest House Jamuna. The signing follows months of refusal by the NCP, which had boycotted the original ceremony on October 17, 2025. The party’s reversal marks the “completion” of the charter, as noted by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain signed the document in the presence of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. The NCP stated that the February 12, 2026, referendum and the prior issuance of the July National Charter Implementation Order provided the “clear legal basis” they had previously demanded.
The party signed on the condition that the charter would be implemented without the “note of dissent” previously attached by other political groups, arguing that the referendum’s “Yes” vote rendered such dissents invalid. Elected NCP MPs are scheduled to take their oaths on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. They will reportedly take two oaths—one as Members of Parliament and another as members of the Reform Council.
