14 killed in Kalbaisakhi across the country

Desk Report: Finally, after the intense heat wave across the country, there has been a relief from rain and a Kalbaisakhi storm. At least 14 people have been killed in this Kalbaisakhi storm and lightning.

These tragic incidents took place in seven districts of the country’s north and central regions from the morning to the afternoon of Sunday (April 26). Among the deceased, 5 people died in Gaibandha, 2 each in Jamalpur, Sirajganj and Thakurgaon, and 1 each in Panchagarh, Bogra and Natore. Our own correspondents report.

Gaibandha:
The highest number of deaths was reported in Gaibandha. In the afternoon, three people were killed by lightning while trying to bring cows to Dakshin Dhopadanga village in Dhopadanga union of Sundarganj upazila.

Around 4 pm, when the sky suddenly covered with dark clouds and it started raining with thunder, former UP Chairman Jahangir Alam Shuja Chowdhury’s son Fuad (40), Chhotan Mia’s son Rafi (15) and Nabir Hossain’s son Mizan (20) died on the spot while taking the cows to the cowshed. A cow also died at the same time. Horse rider Manik Mia (35) was killed by lightning in Jamirachar of Fulchhari upazila. In addition, an old man died after being frightened by the loud sound of lightning in Saghata.Upazila Executive Officer Ashraful Kabir said. Two more people were injured in separate incidents and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Jamalpur:
Two people were killed in a thunderstorm that began in the afternoon after a severe heat wave. Marjina Begum (22) was killed while working in the kitchen in Paschim Karichura village of Melanda upazila. She is Rajib’s wife. On the other hand, farmer Hasmat Ali (45) lost his life in a thunderstorm while trying to bring cows from the field in Charyatharthpur village of Sadar upazila. Five more people were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital.

Thakurgaon:

Two people, Laboni Akter (35) and Ilias Ali (37), were killed in a lightning strike in Pirganj upazila at noon. Laboni was on her way home from cutting grass and Ilias died when he was struck by lightning while he was visiting his land. A case of accidental death has been registered at the police station in this incident.

Sirajganj:

Two people died in separate incidents in Tarash and Raiganj upazilas during the paddy harvesting season. Farmer Abdul Hamid (50) was killed while working in the field in Tarash. Hasan Sheikh (25) was struck by lightning while gathering paddy on his land in Raiganj.

Panchagarh:

A worker named Sarwaraddi (21) was killed by lightning while working in a tea garden in Sonapatila village of Dhamor union of Atwari upazila. More in this incident Two workers were injured and are receiving treatment at Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital.

Bogra:
A young man named Sumon (35) was killed in a lightning strike while trying to bring a goat from a land next to his house in Gabtoli Upazila. Police have inspected the scene and legal proceedings are underway.

Natore:
A laborer named Samrat Hossain (26) was killed by lightning while harvesting paddy in Chalanbil area of ​​Singra upazila. He had come from Shahjadpur in Sirajganj to harvest paddy. He died when lightning struck the house he was sheltering in during the rain. The local administration and police have confirmed the truth of these incidents.
