Sports Desk : The ICC has given Bangladesh 24 hours to provide a final decision regarding their participation in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. Following the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) expressed concerns over player safety and their initial decision not to send the team to India, the ICC Board held a vote on the matter today. The Board voted in favor of including a replacement team in the T20 World Cup should Bangladesh officially withdraw.
However, before the decision is finalized, the ICC has requested the BCB to consult with the Bangladesh government and provide a definitive stance. They have been granted a one-day window to do so.According to relevant sources, Cricinfo first reported this development.
The Ultimatum: The BCB must formally accept the existing T20 World Cup schedule by the end of today, January 22, 2026.
The Stance: Bangladesh’s government and the BCB have consistently refused to travel to India for their group matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, citing security concerns.
ICC Position: The ICC rejected the request to change venues, stating that independent security assessments found no credible threats and altering the schedule this close to the tournament would set a problematic precedent.
Potential Replacement: If Bangladesh withdraws, Scotland is the highest-ranked non-qualified team and is poised to take their place in Group C.
