Economic Reporter Dhaka : In a landmark move to modernize its fleet and expand its global footprint, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has officially signed a massive $3.7 billion agreement with US aviation giant Boeing to purchase 14 state-of-the-art aircraft. The deal, which includes a mix of advanced Dreamliners and 737 MAX jets, marks the largest single investment in the national carrier’s history, signaling a new era for Bangladesh’s aviation industry. The agreement was signed at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday night, according to the national flag carrier.

The order includes 10 wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 4 narrow-body Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, aimed at strengthening long-haul and regional operations.Biman’s Managing Director and CEO Kaizer Sohel Ahmed said the new aircraft, which are fuel-efficient and technologically advanced, will support fleet modernisation, strengthen operational capacity, and help expand the airline’s international route network.

He added that this would bolster Bangladesh’s position in the global aviation market.During the previous interim government, former commerce secretary Mahbubur Rahman had said in July last year that a purchase order for 25 aircraft from Boeing would be placed. At the time, Biman had told media it had no information about the planned procurement.Biman’s board took a policy decision on Dec 30, 2025, to proceed with the purchase, a decision now finalised with the signing of the contract.
