Staff Reporter : The prime suspect, Forkan Mollah (40), is strongly suspected to have committed suicide by jumping off the Padma Bridge. Investigators confirmed that his mobile phone was recovered from the bridge, and a final chilling WhatsApp voice message to his brother confessed to the slaughter of his wife, three daughters, and brother-in-law. Furthermore, bridge CCTV footage captured a man matching his description leaping into the river shortly after the gruesome crime.

Gazipur District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Sharif Uddin revealed the details during a press conference on Thursday afternoon, providing a timeline of the suspect’s final known movements following the massacre.“Technological analysis and bridge surveillance footage show Forkan stopping his private car at a midpoint on the Padma Bridge at 6:42am on Monday,” Sharif said.“He placed his phone on the railing, waited for two to three minutes, and then jumped into the water.”The mobile phone was later picked up by a truck driver’s assistant passing the spot at 6:45am, who took it to Meherpur.

Police tracked and recovered the device from Meherpur later that day.Investigations suggest that the 40-year-old driver had meticulously planned the killings of his wife Sharmin, 35, their three daughters –Mim, 16, Maria, 8, and Faria, 2 – all three identified with their single names, and his brother-in-law, Rasul Molla, 22.

Police believe that on the night of May 8, Forkan spiked the family’s dinner with sedatives or an intoxicating substance.Once they were unconscious, he hacked all five to death with a cleaver between 8pm and 5am.Forkan had reportedly lured his brother-in-law Rasul to the Kapasia home by promising him a job at a local garment factory.According to the SP, the couple, originally from Gopalganj, had been suffering from long-standing marital disputes.

They had moved to the rented house in Kapasia’s Rautkona area only six months ago in an attempt to settle their family life.“It appears that after wiping out his entire family in a premeditated act, he chose suicide over hiding,” said Sharif. While the footage shows a man in a white shirt and black pants jumping from the bridge, police have yet to recover a body.Alerts have been sent to all police stations along the Padma River to locate Forkan, dead or alive. The investigation into the case, filed by Sharmin’s father Shahadat Molla, remains ongoing.
