everyone knows them by their ‘secret’ identity- February 12 election is an election to show a “red card” to the corrupt-
Special Correspondent / Barisal Correspondent: The verbal sparring between the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami is intensifying. Hinting at Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said, There is a political party that has a different identity to the people; everyone knows them by their ‘secret’ identity. Individuals from this secret organization have emerged as new oppressors to the people of this country. They are printing ballot papers at presses (printing houses) familiar to them, which they will carry in their pockets on election day.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman remarked that the February 12 election is an election to show a “red card” to the corrupt. He said, “The upcoming February 12 election is no ordinary election; it is an election to show a red card to those who have deceived the people for 54 years.”
He made these remarks on Wednesday (February 4) at a massive election rally organized at the Dalia point in Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman added, “If Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, it will take an uncompromising stance against corruption. They are known as a ‘secret organization : Tarique Rahman
On Wednesday (February 4, 2026), at an election rally in the historic Bells Park in Barisal, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman introduced candidates for the 21 parliamentary seats representing the BNP and its allies in the Barisal division.
Tarique Rahman stated that while the pre-August 5 autocracy had stripped away the people’s right to vote and freedom of speech—often insulting citizens and belittling distinguished individuals—one would have expected these practices to end after they fled. However, he noted with regret that this culture persists. He remarked, “A certain political party has a different identity to the public; they are known as a ‘secret organization.’ Individuals from this secret group have now emerged as ‘new oppressors’ to the people of Bangladesh.”.
Highlighting the historic contribution of both men and women in the workforce, he mentioned that mothers and sisters are working side-by-side with men in fields and factories, specifically in the globally acclaimed garment industry. He added, “We observe with deep contempt that these ‘new oppressors’ and their leader used a disgraceful term regarding the country’s women just two days ago. Bangladesh cannot expect progress from those who lack even a shred of respect for our mothers and sisters.”.
Earlier, at 12:17 PM, Tarique Rahman’s motorcade reached the road about 200 yards from the rally venue. After greeting the crowd for about 10 minutes, he reached the stage at 12:27 PM, where he was welcomed by leaders and activists with spirited slogans
